Head Coach: Peter Maxwell

My life as a ski racer began at age seven when I started racing in Central Division for Afton Alps, Minnesota. With hard work and determination, from J4s to J1s, I qualified for Jr. Championships six times and was an athletic scholarship, All American collegiate alpine athlete with Rocky Mountain College. I continue to race USSA races today. My USSA national Slalom points are 60 and my Giant Slalom points are 80.

My life as a coach began in college when I assisted with YSL for the Silver Run Ski Team in Red Lodge, MT. I furthered my skill and experience when coaching J1-J3’s for the Bridger Ski Foundation in Bozeman. I later returned to Minnesota, coaching with Team Gilboa as their J4 coach. I have coached all ages and abilities of racers in my tenure at Gilboa. This is where I have spent the last thirteen years.

I have coached for Team Gilboa summer racing camps at Mount Hood and camps in Snowbird and Loveland Pass. I completed my Level 300 coaches training at Winter Park and became a level 400 coach in Mammoth. I have coached J3 and J4 Jr. Championships as well as represented athletes at Whistler Cup. I have been an official and chief of course at many series and championship races. I have invested a lot of time in developing a comprehensive dryland training program.

In addition to coaching, I have spent ten years teaching with the Minneapolis Public Schools with an emphasis in Physical Education and Health. I also have experience as a competitive, nationally ranked cyclist. I raced professionally with Bianchi-Martini, an international mountain bike racing team. This year I was runner up to the Minnesota Masters 35+ road rider of the year.

I have felt grateful to work in professions where I have been able to use my innate skills while growing and developing them more completely. I am passionate about ski racing and love working with athletes of all ages. I believe in a lifestyle of health, fitness, and well being. I feel that time spent skiing, unlike many other competitive sports, is an investment for a lifetime.

I look forward to experiencing each athlete's individual growth, establishing relationships with their families as well as collaborating and growing with other coaches. My wife, Kari, and I look forward to returning to Montana, especially Missoula. Let’s ski!
